Emergency Dentist in Jordan Springs and Penrith

If you're in pain, swollen, bleeding or something has broken, ring us. We keep time aside every day for people who need to be seen urgently, and the phone gets you in faster than the online calendar will.

We're open

Monday to Saturday
8:00am – 5:00pm

Outside those hours, see "After hours and weekends" below — and if it's severe, go straight to a hospital emergency department.

What counts as a dental emergency?

Knocked-Out Tooth

Time matters — ring us immediately. Handle it by the crown, never the root.

Severe Toothache

Pain relief as directed on the packet, and ring us. Never hold aspirin against the gum.

Cracked or Broken Tooth

Save any pieces in milk and ring us. Cover a sharp edge with sugar-free gum if it's cutting your tongue.

Facial swelling

If it's spreading towards your eye or under your jaw, or you're having trouble swallowing or breathing, go to a hospital emergency department now — not to us.

Lost Filling or Crown

Keep the crown and bring it. Temporary dental cement from a pharmacy can hold it — never superglue.

Bleeding or Injury

Bite firmly on clean gauze for twenty minutes without checking. If it's still heavy after an hour, ring us.

What to do before you get here

Step 01

Ring us first

Don't just turn up. A quick call means we know what's happened, can tell you what to do in the meantime, and can have the right amount of time and the right equipment ready when you arrive.

Step 02

Manage the pain safely

Over-the-counter pain relief taken as directed on the packet is usually enough to get you here. Never place aspirin or any tablet directly against the gum — it burns the tissue and makes treatment harder. Avoid very hot or very cold food and drink.

Step 03

Protect the tooth or the pieces

If an adult tooth has come out, hold it by the crown and put it straight back into the socket if you can, then bite gently on a clean cloth. If you can't, store it in milk — not water. Never do this with a child's baby tooth. Broken fragments also travel best in milk.

Step 04

Bring these with you

Your Medicare and health fund cards, a list of any medications you take, and anything that's come out of your mouth — a crown, a fragment, a tooth. If someone can drive you, bring them.

What It Will Cost

An emergency appointment starts with an examination and usually an X-ray, so we can work out what's actually going on before doing anything. You'll be told what's needed and what it costs before treatment starts — being in pain doesn't mean losing the right to know the price first. Often the first visit is about getting you comfortable rather than finishing the job, with the definitive treatment planned and quoted afterwards. We claim your health fund rebate through HICAPS at the counter, so you pay the gap only.

HICAPS claiming on the spot

Your health fund rebate is processed at the counter — you pay the gap.

Payment plans available

Afterpay, humm, National Dental Plan and DentiCare.

Quoted before treatment

Even urgently. You'll know the cost before we start.

After Hours and Weekends

We're open Monday to Saturday, 8am to 5pm, and closed Sundays. Outside those hours, ring us anyway and leave a message, we pick these up when we open and will get you in as early as we can. If you can't wait, healthdirect gives free health advice from a registered nurse, day or night, on 1800 022 222. And if you have facial swelling that's spreading, difficulty swallowing or breathing, bleeding you can't control, or an injury from an accident, don't wait for a dentist at all — go to your nearest hospital emergency department.

Common Questions

Can you see me today?

Often, yes. We hold time aside each day for urgent appointments, and that time doesn't always show in the online calendar — which is why ringing works better than booking online when something's wrong.

Ring us straight away, it's genuinely time-critical. Pick the tooth up by the crown, never the root. If it's an adult tooth, put it back in the socket if you can and bite gently on a clean cloth. If you can't, keep it in milk and bring it. Never reimplant a child's baby tooth.

Come to us for pain, breakages, lost fillings and most swelling. Go to a hospital emergency department if swelling is spreading towards your eye or under your jaw, if you're struggling to swallow or breathe, if bleeding won't stop, or if there's been a significant injury.

Not unless that's the right answer and you've agreed to it. The first job is getting you out of pain and finding out what's causing it. Removal is one option among several and you'll hear the alternatives before anything is decided.

Happy gas is usually available. Oral and IV sedation need a visiting sedationist rostered on, so they're arranged rather than same-day — tell us when you ring and we'll work out what's possible.

No. We see anyone who needs urgent care, whether you've been here before or not.
