Emergency Dentist for St Marys

If you’re in St Marys with a toothache, a broken tooth or a tooth that’s been knocked out, call us on (02) 4744 3754 as early in the day as you can. We keep time aside every day for urgent appointments, and the sooner you ring, the more options we have. Until you’re seen, take pain relief as directed on the packet and avoid chewing on the sore side.

We’re a general dental practice in Jordan Springs Shopping Centre, north-west of St Marys, open Monday to Saturday from 8am to 5pm. You can read more about how we handle urgent problems on our emergency dentist page.

Common dental emergencies we see

Toothache that keeps you up at night

A throbbing ache, pain when you bite, or sensitivity that lingers after a hot drink can point to decay that has reached the nerve, a cracked tooth or an infection. Pain that wakes you up is a sign not to wait for a routine check-up. We’ll examine the tooth, take an x-ray if it’s needed, explain what we find and talk you through the options, with a written estimate before any treatment starts.

Swelling in the gum or face

Swelling usually means infection. Don’t put heat on it. A cold pack on the outside of the cheek can help while you arrange to be seen. If the swelling is spreading towards your eye or neck, or it’s making it hard to breathe or swallow, go to a hospital emergency department straight away rather than waiting for us.

A knocked-out adult tooth

Time matters here. Pick the tooth up by the crown (the white part), not the root. If it’s dirty, rinse it briefly in milk or saliva, but don’t scrub it or scrape the root. If you can, gently push it back into the socket and bite on a clean cloth. If not, keep it in milk, or in the person’s mouth against the cheek if they’re old enough not to swallow it. Then call us and get seen as soon as possible. Baby teeth should not be put back in.

Broken or chipped teeth

A small chip may only need smoothing or a filling, while a larger break can expose the inner part of the tooth. Keep any pieces in a clean container and rinse your mouth with warm water.

Lost fillings and crowns

If a crown comes off, keep it and bring it with you. Don’t use household glue to stick it back on.

Getting to us from St Marys

We’re north-west of St Marys, inside Jordan Springs Shopping Centre at Shop 13. If you’re coming from around St Marys station, which is on the T1 Western Line, it’s a short trip up to the centre. There’s undercover and open-air parking at the centre with no time limit, plus accessible parking and level access into the practice, which helps when you’re not feeling well. For more about visiting us from your area, see our St Marys page.

When it’s after hours

We’re closed on Sundays and in the evenings, and we don’t offer after-hours care. If something happens when we’re closed:

Then ring us when we open so we can follow up on the tooth itself.

Questions from St Marys patients

Do I need to be an existing patient to get an urgent appointment?

No. We see new patients for urgent problems. Ring us, tell us what’s happened, and we’ll find the earliest time we can.

Can I claim on my health fund on the day?

Yes. We have HICAPS at the front desk, so if you have extras cover your claim can be processed at the appointment. You’ll get a written estimate before we start any treatment.

I’m very nervous. Can I still be treated?

Yes. Let us know when you call. We offer happy gas, oral sedation, and IV sedation with a visiting sedationist. Some of these need planning, so we’ll talk through what’s possible for your situation. See our sedation dentistry page for more.

Should I go to a GP or a dentist for a toothache?

For most tooth pain, a dentist is the right place to start, because we can find and treat the cause. If you have swelling that affects your breathing or swallowing, or you feel very unwell, go to a hospital emergency department.

Can I book online?

Yes, you can book online. For pain, swelling or an injury, calling is usually quicker, as we can check what’s happened and look at the urgent times we’ve kept aside.
